Rooted in Resilience – Fine Art Print

A silver birch tree rises from the heart of a massive, decaying stump—life emerging from death, anchored by the roots of the past. Captured deep in the woods near Edmundston, New Brunswick, this scene stood out to me last year, but it wasn’t until I revisited it with a new vision and technique that everything aligned.

To bring this image to life, I used a method called light painting, carefully controlling the illumination with an amaran Pano 60c and a softbox fitted with a grid. A neutral density filter allowed me to work with long exposures—each frame contributing a specific light pass to the composition. Over 6 to 10 exposures were captured and blended together in post to create this surreal, moody atmosphere, letting the viewer focus solely on the elements that mattered most: roots, light, and rebirth.

This is one of my favorite images of the year, not only for the final result but for the story it tells—a reminder that life always finds a way to grow, even through the remains of what once was.
