MACRO PHOTOGRAPHER & EDUCATOR

Macro Photography

Exploring the small world through light, color and detail.

Macro Photographer & Educator

I’m Daniel Aucoin, a Canadian macro photographer and educator with a passion for revealing the details we often walk past without noticing.

My approach to macro photography is heavily influenced by light. I use natural and artificial lighting, color, shallow depth of field and focus stacking to transform small subjects into something completely different.

For me, macro photography isn’t simply about making something small appear larger. It’s about slowing down, paying attention and finding photographs in places most people would never think to look.

Creating With Light

Light plays a huge role in how I approach macro photography.

Rather than simply documenting what I find, I often build the light around my subject—adding it one source at a time to control highlights, shadows, color, texture and depth.

At this scale, even a tiny change in the position or intensity of a light can completely transform an image.
